Forty Out-Of-State Teenagers Repairing Flood Damaged Homes In Columbia

Recovery efforts still stand. A group of forty teenagers are in the Midlands helping repair homes impacted by the 2015 flood.
They come from Capital Camps, a Jewish summer camp based out of Pennsylvania. They're partnering with Nechama disaster response nonprofit, and SBP disaster response nonproft.

"Only a few of us have done something like this before. Seeing that we're actually fixing a house and fixing someone's life is a really cool thing," High School Volunteer Amy Nankin says.
Rebecca Ganter's home is one of four being repaired. She formerly was a volunteer herself with Oliver Gospel Mission, but is taking a step back to receive rather than give.
"It's hard to admit that you need help and then it's embarrassing because I don't have income to do what I thought I could. You have to accept that that's what people are for and you have to be willing to be on the other end," Ganter says.
"It's a really humbling thing and I know they're all excited to be here," Nechama Team Leader Brittany Rubin says.
The group is serving in Columbia for a week. They are doing tasks from painting to insulation to flooring.
